Safe Beers For The Gluten Intolerant

If you’ve recently found that you can no longer eat foods containing wheat, barley, or rye due to a gluten intolerance, many different lifestyle changes are needed. Celiac disease, once thought uncommon, is actually become much more widespread than ever before. Adjusting to the gluten free lifestyle can be quite difficult at first, as you find that everything from your favorite beer to favorite bread are now off limits! Luckily, there are answers. There are breweries that offer gluten-free beers, and more than you would think! Just because you are following a gluten free lifestyle it does not mean you can’t ever have another beer!

The options for replacement of grains in beverages that are extremely high in gluten are buckwheat and sorghum; rice, maize, corn, and sunflower; amaranth, flax, millet, quinoa, teff, wild rice, soybean, ragi, and rape. These grains do not contain gluten and are safe for most Celiacs to eat. With so many choices available out there for the many different grains that can be used to make tasty ales and lagers, it is a wonder why so many breweries stopped at using only wheat.

Some of the breweries that offer gluten free beers include Bard’s, Ramapo Valley Brewery, Honey Beer, New France Beers, La Messagere, Greens, Discovery Amber Ale, Pioneer Lager, Endeavour Double Dark Beer, Trailblazer Lager, Herald Ale, Pilgrims Cherry Beer, Mission Amber Beer, Pathfinder Dubbel Dark, Celia Framboise, Celia IPA, Celia Saison, Shakparo Ale, Anheuser-Busch’s Redbridge. With so many choices to choose from, you’ll be set to start trying out the different types and decide which your favorite is. While there are less options available, it is amazing how many different types there are available, ranging from stouts to lagers. You can still do all of the things you always did while drinking Celiac friendly beer, such as going out with friends or watching the game on TV!

While some may notice a difference in flavor, typically beer made from millet or sorghum is still enjoyed just as much. Even those who do not need to avoid wheat, rye, or barley can enjoy the delicious flavor of these gluten free beers. Thanks to these brewers who are becoming more and more aware of gluten sensitivities many options exist for those who cannot drink the traditional beers.
